This is what we call organic
Our cereals are grown as much as possible in the Netherlands. The main exception in this respect is of course rice, which cannot be grown here. No matter where they come from, all our cereals are, however, grown without synthetic chemical pesticides and without artificial fertilizers. This is made possible by effective crop rotation and mechanical weed control. After harvesting, we process the cereals at our mill to make deliciously fresh, completely organic, honest and pure cereal flakes, mueslis and crunchies.
At the Forefront of Organic Food
The first initiatives to produce food using environmentally-friendly methods arose in the 1970s. One of them was a group of farmers who wanted to grow organic grain. They realised that an alternative had to be found to the grain cultivation methods of that time, which involved using large quantities of pesticides regardless of the impact on people’s health and the environment. The processing of organic cereals took flight as more farmers started using environmentally-friendly production methods.
At the end of the 1970s, Harrie van Grinsven set up a mill called De Halm, which has been at the forefront of the organic food revolution in the Netherlands ever since. Read the full story here.
Proud holder of the EKO quality mark
We are really proud of the fact that our products bear the EKO quality mark, which means our cereals and other ingredients are grown and then processed at our mill in accordance with strict organic rules. The designated control authority Skal regularly audits our company and our suppliers so we can retain our EKO status.
